Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche is one of the most venerated and respected masters in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and without doubt one of the most important lamas of our time. He is one of the teachers of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to whom he regularly transmits rare teachings of which he is holder, and especially those of the Great Perfection (Dzogchen).

Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche was born in 1924, in the year of the wood rat, in a place called Yardrok Taklüng, located in central Tibet. At a very young age, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the great tertön Dongak Lingpa and is also regarded as the reincarnation of other major Masters of Tibet and India. Throughout his life, Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche has studied with the greatest masters of his time, receiving a complete traditional education.

At the time of the invasion by the Communist Chinese troops, Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche left Tibet and settled in the north of Nepal, just south of Everest, in the border region and very secluded area of Solukhumbu, where he spent many years in retreat. There he founded the monastery of Thubten Chöling, now home to a flourishing community of monks, nuns and lay practitioners.

Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche was one of the closest and most accomplished disciples of one of the greatest Tibetan masters, Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and is now one of the foremost masters of the Nyingmapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. It was prophesied by Kyabje Khyentse Rinpoche that Trulshik Rinpoche would become the spiritual heir to his teachings, and Kyabje Khyentse Rinpoche placed great confidence in him, trusting Trulshik Rinpoche with important responsibilities. Upon Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's passing in 1991, Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche was entrusted to find his reincarnation. Now over 80 years old, Kyabje Rinpoche still visits the West every year, particularly France, to give teachings to fortunate students.

As one of the greatest contemporary masters, having performed over 60 years of practise and retreat, Kyabje Rinpoche is dedicated to passing down the lineage in order to preserve the precious living tradition of the Buddhist teachings. Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche spends part of the year at his residence in Boudhanath, Nepal, where he frequently gives important wangs, or empowerments, to other Tibetan lamas, as well as to thousands of fortunate monks, nuns, and lay practitioners.

In 2004, Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche initiated an important construction project of a new monastery in the valley of Kathmandu, as well as the construction of a monastic institute in Lumbini (the birthplace of the Buddha). The new monasteries will offer shelter to hundreds of monks, nuns and newly arriving Tibetan refugees who want to dedicate themselves to the study and practice of Buddhist philosophy under his guidance.
