Education & support

Siddhartha provides regular support for half a dozen monastic schools and communities in Darjeeling (West Bengal, India) and Gangtok in Sikkim, as well as in Boudha, Nepal. At present a total of 340 children are being cared for in these schools: 200 in Gangtok, 100 in Boudha, and 40 in Darjeeling.

Through Siddhartha’s donation funds, Songtsen supports the construction of schools in remote Himalayan regions that would otherwise not have access to education, and hundreds of children are sponsored through the sponsorship program. In addition, approximately thirty one-off projects have been successfully completed in Tibetan refugee communities in Orissa, Assam, and Mysore, in India, as well as in Bhutan, Nepal and other locations since 1970 (see completed projects).

Providing a caring environment

The monastic schools are placed under the direction of great masters and erudite Tibetan teachers who guarantee the quality of the education and care. The children are looked after by monks and lay people dedicated to the Buddhist values of kindness and compassion.

Special care is taken to provide a nurturing environment for the children and adolescents. A sound education is finely balanced with time for recreation and other activities.
