Mantras & practices

Recommended by H.H. the Dalai Lama

In recent years, there has been a noticeable rise in the incidents of natural disasters in the world (tsunami, hurricanes, earthquakes and the threat of devastating disease). These have caused enormous loss of life and / or material damage. The resulting suffering has been incalculable. With the aim of pacifying these calamities and in order to prevent new ones from happening, whether due to natural occurrences or the result of human inanity, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has recommended the recitation of the following mantras:

Tara

Tara, frescoe in Solukumbu

Tara

OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SVAHA (Sanskrit)

OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA (Tibetan)

Chenrezig

OM MANI PADME HUM (Sanskrit)

OM MANI PEME HUNG (Tibetan)

Padmasambhava

OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM (Sanskrit)

OM AH HUNG BENZA GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG (Tibetan)

These above recitations can be combined together with other additional prayers.

For those who wish to take part in this collective recitation, Pema Wangyal Rinpoche suggests that a short period of time should be devoted to this practice every day, with a more extended recitation performed from time to time in groups, depending on the wishes and availability of the people concerned. As was done last year, Rinpoche would like to keep a count of the number of mantras and prayers recited, which he intends to send, together with the names of the people involved, to H.H. the Dalai Lama and to Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche, requesting them to dedicate the merit created.

If you wish to take part in this Dharma activity, please send the number of mantras and prayers that you have recited by the end of March 2007, together with your name, to recitations@songtsen.org so that they can be forwarded to Pema Wangyal Rinpoche.
