Dharma practice: Prayer for peace

 

Propitiatory Offering to the Ground Lords and the Goddesses of the Four Elements

Fill a clean torma vessel with balls of dough mixed with naga medicine, the twenty five vase substance and so forth. Sprinkle them with pure milk and water, and having set out the drink-offering of milky water together with precious stones, grains and medicinal substances, bless them.

 

Sadak gyelpo ser dok chen

Lord of earth, the yellow-coloured king,

Sayi lhamo ten ma dang

Firm and stable goddess of the ground,

Char chok shing la lho chok me

Goddesses of Wood to East and Fire to South,

Nup chok chak la chang chok chu

Iron to West and Water to the North,

Tsam shi sayi lhamo nam

And the four of earth in half points in between,

Nyien sön serkyem la sok pai

Kindly hear us and accept our gifts:

Chö pai yo tchai di she nai

This golden drink and other things.

Tsuk lak khang sa di nam la

In this sacred region here

Ro nga tradok ma dzé par

Let there be no envious grudge.

Tashi djung war chin gui lop

Bless that all auspiciousness may come!

Ko lung ma dom ga war kyi

Be joyful, have no jealous hate.

Nö kel ma ché tsé war kyi

Be loving, do no harm to us.

Pok thuk djung wa zö par kyi

Be patient with our insults and abuse.

Mi thun sa yö la sok pai

Dangerous earthquakes pacify

Djung shi nö pa shi wa dang

And likewise other elemental harms.

Tashi délek dzai tu söl

We pray you, bring us fortune and prosperity

 

In order to avert the danger of earthquakes, we have been instructed from above to recite this propitiatory prayer to the goddesses of the four elements as many times as we can. We therefore request you to keep it in your mind, that its purpose may be achieved.
